End of year ritual: 5 questions you probably did not ask yourself

Let’s end the year with one simple, yet profound, end-of-year ritual. Seasonal rituals can help us move forward in our lives. Consciously reflecting on the end of something, and preparing the beginning of something new, helps us integrate our life experiences — celebrating them, and turning parts of them into learnings and wisdom for the future.

Create your space

Carve out time for yourself to reflect, without being interrupted. Light a candle, put some relaxing music on if it feels good, and make yourself comfortable. Take a few deep breaths and allow yourself to connect with your heart space. Have a journal on your side (recommended), or answer the following prompts aloud.

Reflect on the past year

These questions are inspired by the “103 bits of advice I wish I had known” by Kevin Kelly.

  1. Who are the people who have been given you the most love this year?

Love can take different forms and shapes, and the signs of love you’ve received this year can be big and small.

  2. Who/what have you forgiven this year? When you forgive others, they may not notice, but you will heal. Forgiveness is not something you do for others; it is a gift to yourself

If you haven’t been able to forgive, what could you do next year to move into that direction?

  3. Did you dedicate time to check-in with yourself on a regular basis over the last 12 months?

Here are some questions to guide you - I invite you to expand and focus on the areas that matter in your life. Are you happy in what you do - your career, your job, what you spent most of your time on? How is your relationship with yourself, and others? Who bring the best out of you? How much of your time are you spending with the people you love most? In which way could you expand your comfort zone and grow?

What do you want to be the same in your life next year, and what do you choose to do differently?

  4. Efficiency is highly overrated; having fun and not taking yourself seriously is highly underrated. Regularly scheduled vacations, aimless walks, and time off are essential for top performance of any kind. The best work ethic requires a good rest ethic.

Take a moment to reflect on your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

What are your beliefs around “slowing down”, and “relaxation” ? What did you do this year to relax and reset? What gives you energy and what deflates you? How can you do more of what brings you joy, fun and laughter?

What do you want to be the same next year, and what do you desire to be different? How can you make this happen?

  5. Who are you becoming?

How can you make sure that you're becoming the person you want to be

I invite you to list what you want to leave behind and release, and connect with what you want to bring in, how you want to show up next year.

That’s it! Have you done it? Congratulations in honouring the year that has been, and intentionally opening up space for what you want to bring in next.

Imagine how your life would be by tapping into your natural abilities to BE, DO and HAVE what you really want in your life, and how it would impact positively on the life of those around you. Instead of accepting the status quo, you can choose to turn all the “I can’t” and “I shouldn’t” into create new possibilities for yourself. Are you now keen to create a positive change in your life?

I can help you feel centered, tap into your inner strength, express your essence and live fulfilled through the ‘Inside-out’ Approach.

Until we meet, take care.
