How do you REALLY feel after lockdown?
Has it lived up to your expectations?
Lockdown in Singapore ended suddenly in mid-June, and like most people I felt relieved and super excited. By that time, I had witnessed cafés and beaches opening up in Europe, and I still found it challenging to accept that our Mediterranean summer family plans had vanished ….
A good friend of mine in Australia had shared with me how her first restaurant outing had been a delight, another one had posted gorgeous pictures of his treks in New Zealand, the Parisian terraces looked so inviting, families and friends were being reunited nearly everywhere and I couldn’t wait to experience the world again ….
For weeks I have been asked and I have asked others: what is the first thing you will do when lockdown ends?
Well, it didn’t all go according to plan! I didn’t rush out and I didn’t experience an overwhelming feeling of freedom and happiness: somehow in the first few days I felt more down than I had been during the lockdown period, and I wondered why. I even felt guilty to feel that way!
Yes, some good friends are relocating (for different reasons), I won’t be able to hug people I love who live in a different country for an unknown period of time, the economic and social climate is complicated and tense worldwide, the future is uncertain … and yet, I know that there is something deeper.
I believe that it is not yet possible to comprehend the depth of the impact - both good and bad - the last few months had and will continue to have on us, as individuals and on us, collectively.
What I know though, is that I’ve developed great daily routines, I’ve cherished the time with my loved ones, the introvert part of me felt blessed, and that like most of us, I was taking a lot of ‘stuff’ for granted like hoping in a plane, a walk outdoor on the other side of town, a coffee with a friend, and more importantly … that once again I’ve changed.
I can only speak for myself: my needs, my desires, my values and my priorities have evolved. I’m sure that by now you have all heard and read that “we can’t change the past, we don’t know what the future has in store for us, and that all we have is the present”. Well, it has never been more meaningful for me. I’ve truly realised that time is precious, and that where I spend my time, how I spend it, with whom I spend it and my genuine appreciation of it is directly linked to my wellbeing. This awareness will be a catalyst for further change in me, that’s a promise!
Whether we were ready for it or not, whether we were willing to experience this or not, we’ve all gone through a transformation (to different degree, I agree).
Change is part of life, and change can empower us - in a different way for each and every one of us.
So, what’s going on with you after this forced period of ‘pause’ and ‘reflection’? Surely, you’ve had to do things differently than you were used to, and you’ve been triggered by events, behaviours, rules that you did not foresee, nor agree with - who hasn’t during the last few months ?
I wonder whether you’ve been reflecting on your values and your priorities in life, and whether you’re ready to build on the last few months and make changes in your life for the better - for you and others around you ?
Coming out of this unique time in our life, imagine how your life would be by tapping into your natural abilities to BE, DO and HAVE what you really want in your life, and how it would impact positively on the life of those around you. Instead of accepting the status quo, you can choose to turn all the “I can’t” and “I shouldn’t” into create new possibilities for yourself. Are you now keen to create a positive change in your life?
I can help you feel centered, tap into your inner strength, express your essence and live fulfilled through the ‘Inside-out’ Approach.
Until we meet, take care.
